About Dr. Abrahim
Dr. Abrahim is a Canadian physician specializing in Obesity Medicine who works with patients suffering from chronic weight problems; he helps them not only lose weight and maintain the loss but also gain longevity and quality of life by improving their overall health.
On top of this, Dr. Abrahim is certified in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine and serves as an assistant clinical professor (adjunct) at McMaster University. He also practices at the Emergency Room of Milton District hospital and has worked in ERs across Ontario for the last 10 years.
After finishing his Family Medicine residency at the University of Alberta in 2008, Dr. Abrahim went on to specialize in Emergency Medicine. It was during this time as an ER doctor that he was struck by the vast number of chronic diseases that were presented in the course of a day. He felt paralyzed by modern medicine’s inability to cure such conditions.
A lot of these diseases were what Dr. Abrahim saw as “lifestyle” conditions. These included diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, IBS, coronary heart disease, and atherosclerosis. Dr. Abrahim was only too aware that while the treatment administered controlled the disease, it did nothing to cure it or prevent future complications that were almost certain to arise.
At the same time, Dr. Abrahim noticed that a lot of these patients were overweight, and while doctors are taught to treat such patients with the conventional advice to “just lose weight”, Dr. Abrahim knew this was as unconstructive as telling a depressed person to just go away and be happy.
It simply wasn’t enough.
Dr. Abrahim had another reason for knowing how difficult it was to lose weight—he himself had been overweight in the past and had found it impossible to lose weight using conventional methods and the recommended guidelines.
He was also unwell and suffered from a lot of the same diseases his patients were now presenting to him: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, autoimmune disorders, and severe stress. He knew something had to change.
It was only by doing his own research that Dr. Abrahim was able to truly heal himself. He spent hours poring over medical research papers and applied what he learnt to his own life. In the process, not only did he lose almost 100 pounds, but he managed to maintain the weight loss and at the same time cure all of his diseases.
Dr. Abrahim wanted to bring this knowledge to his patients, because while he knew he was skilled at saving lives, this was no longer enough. He wanted what any good doctor wants: he wanted to help his patients live fully, rather than just prevent their death.
He didn’t want to just treat heart attacks – he wanted to stop them happening in the first place.
So, he decided right there and then that he would dedicate his life’s work to helping his patients cure their chronic illnesses by changing their lifestyles. This way, they would not be stuck taking strong medications for the rest of their lives, and the chance of them ending up on his operating table after suffering a heart attack would be greatly reduced.
He realized he had to start this mission by informing his patients that these lifestyle diseases from which they suffered were entirely preventable.
These days, the more he sees patients’ lives transform before his eyes, the more passionate he feels about sharing his methods on how to lose weight and eradicate most chronic diseases.
